What airline is best for flying into Tanzania and what airport should we chose?

Delta/KLM is the most popular provider and they have flights going to and coming from Mt. Kilimanjaro (JRO) International Airport (2) times a day. (JRO) international airport is the main airport that services all tours to Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Do I need a visa to enter Tanzania?

Yes. Visas are provided at JRO international airport after you arrive and before you go through customs. It generally takes up to (1) hour to receive your visa and the cost is $100 USD.

How do I get to the accommodations (HOTEL) that Kili Ascents provides from the airport?

Kili Ascents provides a shuttle service to and from JRO international airport to guest locations throughout the city of Moshi. Many guests tend to go on Safari or Day Excursions after their climb. For this reason Kili Ascents does not incorporate the shuttle in the package price and each guest can reserve a shuttle during booking for $25 each way.

How do I/we arrange accommodations while we are in Tanzania?

Kili Ascents provides full accommodations during your time in Tanzania for (1) night before and after your climb along with all accommodations while on the mountain. Aside from your shuttle to and from the airport and meals the day you arrive and leave; everything else is included in your package.

What are the hotel accommodation locations?

The (3) that we use are Stella Maris, Parkview and Sal Salinero. Please feel to inquire about these hotels with us directly and we will be happy to forward additional information regarding each property. We guarantee that you will be satisfied with each location as they are the premier hotels within Moshi and the safest.

What does it realistically cost for anything from food to souvenirs while in country.

Expect to pay between $4 to $8 USD for a nice dinner and $5 for breakfast and lunch items. Beer and Wine are around $2 a glass/bottle. Snacks are considerably cheap if you have not packed them already. Souvenirs are subject to interpretation. Many items are in the $5 – $15 USD range but they can cost more if it is a specialty piece.

Is it true that water in Africa is not for consumption if you do not live there?

Due to health concerns from untreated water it is always wise to only consume bottled or hand treated (Filter and Purified) water from the time you enter Tanzania until you leave. Also, do not consume any ice, frozen dairy or liquids that are of unknown origin. This would mean that if a guide from Kili Ascents has not provided you with these items, you should not consume them.

Is it customary to tip your guides and porters? If so, how much?

Yes, it is customary to tip the crew as the majority of their earnings are dependent upon your satisfaction during the trip and how you compensate them. This is an essential means in order to provide the best possible service from guides and porters. Unless you feel as though you did not receive the absolute best possible client service during your trip. Kili Ascents provides a tip assessment form to help you understand how much to give.

What is the refund policy and how do I cancel my trip if needed?

Kili Ascents has a straight forward and easy refund/cancellation policy. 100% paid back in full up to 60 days before your climb date without exclusions and for any reason. Within 60 – 31 days is a 50% refund of all guided services and unfortunately there isn’t a refund allocated within 30 days.

There is very GOOD news regarding cancellations. Since there is a MANDATORY trip insurance for every Kili Ascents Guided Adventure, your insurance company should reimburse you for the entirety of the trip and/or make up the opposite percentage that Kili Ascents does not refund. We recommend using either Ripe Cord or Travel Guard as options for travel insurance.
